Eight years ago,
Scott and Gaby shared one very special night. Not wanting to ruin their
friendship, they didn't take things further...but neither of them has
forgotten.

When Scott’s friends stage an intervention to
make him realize that his fiancé, Victoria, is all wrong for him, he takes time
to evaluate his life. He’s earned a big promotion and just bought his dream
car, but those things are just superficial. The one time he was truly happy,
was with Gaby.

Gaby is in a good place in her life. She loves
her job, has the best friends and family a girl could ask for, and is dating a
sweet and sexy guy, but she’s never stopped thinking about that night with
Scott.

Eager to find happiness again, Scott makes a
plan to win Gaby’s heart during a weekend getaway, but she doesn’t want to be
his rebound girl. Will 42 hours be enough to convince Gaby that it's finally
their time for love?

Excerpt

  “The other night, at
the bar, right before the band started…. You came back from the bathroom,
looking all flushed and embarrassed. Then you downed TJ’s beer… I’d meant to
ask you about it then, but the music came on, and we all got distracted. Did
something happen?”

  I flushed at his
question, as I remembered the scene that had gotten me all flustered.

  “Oh… God… I just,” I
felt like such a child, I could barely even talk about it, and it wasn’t as if
I’d walked in on them having sex or anything. “I ran into Brock’s brother
Brendan … The lead singer. Anyway, he and some girl were going at it pretty hot
and heavy in the hallway.”

   “Oh,” Scott looked at
me suddenly, then cleared his throat and looked back out the windshield. “So
you were embarrassed?”

   I let out a nervous
laugh and admitted, “Yeah, because I was taken by surprised, and I kind of, um,
stood there and watched for a minute. Then, Brendan caught me, and said hi,
like it was no big deal. I just felt like a prude.”

   “Hmmm,” Scott began,
as if unsure what to say next. “Have you never been in that situation before?”

  I averted my eyes,
then responded softly, “What? Practically having sex in a bar? No.”

  “No,” Scott said, his
voice rough. “Where you’ve been so in the moment, that you couldn’t control
yourself, and didn’t care if you got caught or not.”

  I squirmed in my
seat, his words affecting me more than they probably should. My body felt warm,
so I turned up the AC a bit and pointed the vent in my direction.

  “No,” I admitted, my
voice barely audible.

  When Scott didn’t
respond, I started to worry that he thought I was referring to the night that
he and I’d slept together, so I blurted, “Oh… I wasn’t trying to say that you
and I didn’t have passion…”

  I felt the blush roll
over my face like a heat wave.

  “I mean, it was our
first time… And it was lovely…” Shit, I was digging in deeper. “What I meant
was that I’ve never had someone take me up against the wall in the club like
that.”

  Oh. My. God. Had I
just said that. I wanted to melt into the floorboards.

  I brought my hands to
my face, hiding my mortification.

After Star Except:

The house
smelled like I’d just walked into a Tuscan Villa. Roasted tomatoes and pasta
with… I inhaled again, sautĂ©ed portabella mushrooms, yum. My stomach rumbled.
James bent over to get two plates heaped with yumminess out of the oven. The
sight of him in his cream colored apron and those tight Wrangler jeans made it
a toss-up as to what I was hungrier for, him or the pasta. He set the plates on
the stove top, and I closed the distance between us. I threw my arms around his
neck and kissed his throat. “I am so in love with you right now.”
His arms
squeezed me closer. “Hmm, are you sure it isn’t the food talking?”
I laughed. “It
might’ve added more to your charm tonight than usual.”
“That hungry,
huh?” The silver streaks in his eyes conveyed his double meaning, leaving me at
a loss for words as my stomach fluttered, and I blushed.
“Eww you guys.
Get a room,” Erika said, pushing us playfully out of her way. “So does the
teacher get any dinner? I worked hard, too, so stop ogling each other, and feed
me.” She grinned.
We chuckled, and
he handed her a plate. She sat at the table and dug in. My stomach twisted in
hunger as I watched her. That blending-in-with-nature exercise was energy
zapping work. I hadn’t been this hungry in a while.
James stroked my
cheek. “You better eat, too. Sounds like progress was made, and it carved a
hole in both of your stomachs.” The hopefulness in his voice made me glad I
hadn’t failed today’s lesson.
“I did have a
little success.” I teased him with my vagueness. Smiling sweetly at him, I
grabbed my plate and joined Erika, who was smirking behind her glass of water.
“Out with it you
two.” James sat next to us. “From the way you both are grinning, and the fact
that you are hours late tells me something big happened.”
“Go ahead,” I
said to Erika, who was bursting to share the news.
“Tayla, blended
with a fir tree! She did such a great job, I had to coach her back to her human
rhythm.” Erika plopped a forkful of pasta between her lips, her eyes glowing
with pride.
James’ mouth
fell open. “No?”
Erika’s smile
grew, and she swallowed. “I am so glad you found her and brought her into the
pack, James. I will finally have someone to teach all my secrets to.”
My lips
stretched into a full blown smile. “James, did you hear that! We can train
together. This is going to be fun!”
Erika threw
James a sarcastic smile, and they both looked at me with amusement. “What? I am
just excited.” Finally, I was good at something werewolf.
“We aren’t
laughing at you, Tayla. I was just teasing James. You see he has talent, but
nothing like the raw skill you possess to master it like I have,” Erika said.
“I have never
fully melded my rhythm with anything. I am excellent at mimicking, but could
never understand the depth Erika always spoke of. It is truly an amazing gift
you have, Tayla.” He touched my knee and looked at me with such admiration that
I blushed.
“Really, it was
Erika. I couldn’t have done it without her guiding me. I’m not really even sure
I can do it again.”
“Oh, she’ll do
it again.” Erika winked at me. “She’s experienced the high and is now addicted.
I don’t know, James, you might lose her to the forest.”
“Then I’ll just
have to entertain her better.” He gave me a wicked grin.
“You’re in a
mood,” I whispered, needing to fan my flushed cheeks and settle my fiery nerves.

Review of Hazards #3 by Alyssa Rose Ivy

One broken heart, one drink too many, one steamy night in the sand...

No one warns you about the dangers of drinking with a broken heart. At least no one warned me. I never imagined I'd fall for a musician, especially not one like Chase, but then again I never expected to have my heart broken into a million pieces by the frat guy I thought was the love of my life.

Sometimes it's the rash decisions, like hooking up in the sand, that lead you to the best places—the kinds of places where it's possible to let yourself fall in love again.

Review:

I've been kind of burnt out on new adult contemporary romances. This one, however, sucked me in. Alyssa has a unique gift to make the characters identifiable and easy to relate to. I devoured this book in a day and was really glad I read it.
This has to be my favorite book out of the three in the series. I loved Mallory and Juliet, but I really liked getting to know Cara. Chase, oh Chase, *swoons*.  He's so sweet and down to earth. I love that he won't let Cara sabatoge things and really cares for her. She's been burned and he's the opposite of what she expected to find.
If you haven't read this series, it's a must! I highly recommend all of the Hazard's books and give this installment five glittery stars for being the best one yet!
