Review of Summer in Salem by Brina Courtney

Description:

Teagen’s summer has been turned upside down by a body, a pentagram necklace, and an old flame.

Nine months ago, Teagan Matthews' boyfriend disappeared and took her sense of stability with him. But when the opportunity to live with her aging grandmother in Salem arises, she decides it's time to get on with her life. A new home, new job and new friends are adding up to a beautiful summer...

...until a young girl's body shows up one night in town, wearing a necklace exactly like Teagan's.

Now a guy looking remarkably like her missing boyfriend has arrived in Salem along with a mysterious stranger who may have some answers that Teagan has desperately been searching for. Teagan must now decide who to trust. It's a matter of life... and her death.

Genre: YA Paranormal Mystery/Romance

Review:

This was a fun, intriguing read.  I enjoyed the writer's style and the use of the New Adult genre.  It was about New Adults, yet fell at a YA reading level.  Never-the-less, it was a good read.
I liked Lark and her unwavering friendship with Teagan.  The grandma, whom is full of secrets, was wonderful.  She gave Teagan space, yet they bonded as well.  Seth was a wild card throughout the story, and I wasn't sure what his deal was at first.
Jason.  He kind of irked me.  I wasn't too fond of his character.  I thought there probably could have been a little more back story there.  Their relationship's lack of explanation didn't have me much invested in the situation.
There wasn't much sexy in this book, but there was quite a few good morals throughout.  Chasing after your dreams is allowed, no matter what anyone else thinks.  Going through tragedy changes people for better or worse.  It's how they carry on with themselves that matters.  Teagan was very brave to take baby steps toward her goals in life even if she wasn't sure she was ready.  She also put her grandma before herself.  Knowing she needed her help, she didn't hesitate to step up.
That's some of what I took away from this story as well as the whole good vs. evil theme.  If you like YA/New adult paranormal reads, then check Summer In Salem out.  I give this book four glittery stars for it's morals and originality.
